At The Airport ...

All GIP Airports, including Gatwick Airport, comply fully with the Government when it comes to security. The Airlines and all other GIP Business Partners connected with the Airport are also always working to ensure the safety of passengers and visitors.

Do pay careful attention to the Gatwick security information and controls within the airport, implemented for your safety.

All travellers will need to go through security checks before boarding the plane.

Security at Gatwick Airport also applies to contents of luggage, so consider the restricted and prohibited items of hand luggage listed below before packing to avoid any belongings being confiscated.

Check-in can take some time due to the increased security checks so arrive in good time and be prepared that you might have to queue at check-in, security control and the boarding gate. You can see the advised check-in guide times in our Journey Preparation Guide.

Security Control And Boarding ...

For entry into the Departure Lounge all passengers will pass through security control where your boarding card and passport will be inspected. Here your hand luggage will be checked and screened also.

Put your hand luggage through the x-ray machine, along with your coat, jacket, handbag, cameras, computers, mobile phones, calculators, etc. as they also have to go through the x-ray machine.  Metallic items like keys, coins and belt buckles also go through the x-ray machine.

Any passengers with pacemakers fitted should request a hand search. Wheelchair users will also require a hand search.  Metal detectors are safe for pregnant women however you are able to request a hand search if you'd prefer, that can be carried out in private.

Note that random searches can be carried out to ensure the safety and security of all passengers.

Connecting Flights ...

Sometimes passengers on connecting flights need to collect their luggage for extra screening before checking-in for their connecting flight. Passengers must ensure that they leave plenty of time between flights, and follow the packing guidelines.
